All these unique lifestyles manage to live parallel to one another, shoulder to shoulder, making for a unique district.  To give you a tour, we’ve put together a list of local favourites that offer the best “Mile End Montreal Experience”.

Expand your horizons even further and explore all the Super Exciting Things to Do in Montreal.

Fairmount Street

Kem Coba 60 Avenue Fairmount O

Fairmount street, located in the heart of Montreal’s Mile End neighbourhood, is a vibrant avenue that is the perfect balance of culture and traditions of Montreal. It is well known for a variety of cafes, bakeries, and boutique shops. This street has a lot of different activities that attracts both locals and visitors.

La Drogeria Fine

Photos via La Drogeria Fine instagram

La Drogeria Fine is a must stop in Fairmount street. Stop by for some homemade gnocchi, served with what is arguably Montreal’s best pasta sauce, la salsa de la nonna. The owner serves these out of a walk-up window where you can order your gnocchi to go. Then, savour this saucy delight on one of the many benches that line Fairmont. Finally, end your delicious adventure next door at Kem Coba, the artisanal ice cream shop that’s so popular there’s always a line up.

📍68 av. Fairmount O

Bonus: Now that you’re nice and full, you can venture into Fairmont Bagels, and grab a dozen to bring back home, or maybe just one, so  you can sample St-Viateur’s favourite bagel rival.

Bernard Street

Brenard Street is a dynamic thoroughfare that captures the essence of the city’s creative and multicultural atmosphere. This street is the perfect spot for food enthusiasts and fashion lovers. The street’s lively ambiance is complemented by its beautiful historic buildings and tree-lined sidewalks, making it an inviting place for a leisurely stroll.

Dépanneur Café

Photos via Le Dépanneur Café instagram

Aching to discover the Mile End’s local musicians? Le Dépanneur Café swaps out tired playlists for local acts, almost all day long. Locals can sign up to play, so it’s definitely an authentic sample of Mile End musicians! The quirky mismatched decor will either leave you charmed or slightly confused. Us charmed folk will want to linger a while, order a bagel sandwich, a latte, and probably come here repeatedly.

📍206 Bernard West

Drawn & Quarterly

Drawn & Quarterly is the bookshop that keeps on giving. The Montreal based graphic novel publisher has not only contributed to the city’s literary scene, but is an active creator of community in the Mile End. Monthly graphic novel book club meetups, frequent book launches, as well as special events are all hosted by this wonderfully curated bookstore. Walk in here and peruse only the finest titles of the moment, graphic novels, along with some of the classics.

Dragon Flowers

Dragon Flowers on Bernard Street is where you will find the enchanted world of Tamey Lau. Pretty white bird cages and flowers adorn the shop’s exterior, creating a miniature paradise nestled between shops and restaurants. Iconic businesses often become so due to the people behind them, and Dragon Flowers is no exception. The shop’s owner, Tamey Lau, is known for her passion, hard work, and generosity. The Mile End community is very happy to have her, as well as her miniature paradise, be part of it.

Laurier Street

Dieu du Ciel

The name Dieu du Ciel translates to God of the Sky, which I suppose may appear like a grandiose claim but is in fact quite accurate. The brewery has been named, now for ten years in a row, best brasserie in Canada by ratebeer.com! With a highly coveted outdoor terrace, it’s a total Mile End treat you must experience.

St-Viateur Street : Bagels and Coffee Wars

St-Viateur is perhaps the most quintessentially Mile End Montreal street. Vintage clothing stores, eateries, coffee shops, handmade benches… it’s all here.

Community spirit takes on the form of furniture with the Givebox, a tall wooden armoire where people leave what they no longer want for others to take. One man’s trash is another man’s gold, yes? Find it right outside Latina’s grocery store, on St-Viateur and Waverly.

St-Viateur Bagel Shop

Photos via St-Viateur bagel instagram

The much talked about St-Viateur Bagel shop is a must. This bagel institution is a favourite amongst locals, celebrities, and Mr. Anthony Bourdain himself. Come find out what the buzz is about! And if you really want to get into it, cross over to Fairmont bagel and compare! Which one wins the infamous bagel war?
📍158 St-Viateur West

Wake yourself back up from your carb coma by taking part in another war, the coffee wars. Café Olimpico on the corner of St-Viateur and Waverly has been said to serve up the best Italian cappuccinos, but so does the Social Club, only one block away. In the summer, locals flock to both of these joints’ terraces to get caffeinated and enjoy the sun, the breeze, and the Mile End vibes.

📍25 Fairmont West

Sparrow

📍5322 BLVD Saint-Laurent

Hof Kelsten

Photos via Hof Kelsten instagram

Hof Kelsten a smidgen past the Mile End border, you’ll find Montreal’s darling bread maker, Hof Kelsten, right on the Main. The vibe here is inevitably trendy, but inspires an eat-and-go type meal (you won’t find cushioned seats and romantic candles here, but rather a low-key industrial look, where food is the centerpiece). Snag some pastries to go, and gobble down French toast, eggs, meats… all with the Hof Kelsten signature Jewish and Eastern European twist.

A favourite route for a casual cycle, away from cars, is the boardwalk along the water down by the Lachine Canal.

The route runs from Old Port to the Atwater Market and beyond all the way to Parc René-Lévesque. Along the way it passes some public art and of the city’s iconic industrial architecture.

For a fact, everyone’s been talking about the growth of Mile-Ex, what could’ve been a casualty of urban sprawl, is now a creative hub. It’s just sprouting with fun new experiences… Firstly, Depanneur le Pick Up doubles as a restaurant and a modern but cozy fine food experience awaits at Le Mile Ex Restaurant (which the area is named after). In addition, there’s always fun at backyard-party style ‘biergarten’ Alexandraplatz, and something for third wave coffee fanatics at Dispatch Coffee. Full of artists that were priced out of mile end, even the streets are something to behold, and the area is speckled with hidden treasures behind garage doors. Best Bring Your Own Wine Montreal Restaurants to Make Your Mouth Water

The most expensive part of going to a restaurant can often be high priced beverages. Most restaurants have a 200-250% mark up on alcohol! However, Montreal restaurants are one step ahead of the thrifty consumer. Some restaurants in Montreal are acquiring a special license that allows customers to BYOB (Bring your own Beer or Wine.) Therefore, we’ve compiled a list of the best bring your own wine Montreal restaurants. As long as you are purchasing food off of the menu, you’re welcome to consume previously purchased wine or beer inside the restaurant. Going to BYOB’s is a great way to cut down food costs without compromising the quality of your dining experience! Here are some BYOB’s that we’ve grown fond of in Montreal!

1. Luna

One of few places serving Korean offerings in Le Plateau Mont-Royal, Luna strives towards authenticity with a modern twist. All of the food is homemade using traditional methods inspired by the families and ancestors of the restaurants’ owners. On the other hand, the plating and interior design will please even the most well-trained contemporary eye. This attention to detail makes the restaurant warm, inviting and, most importantly, delicious – altogether landing it a spot among the best Korean restaurants in the city, and as the best BYOW place, too. Luna is seriously so good you could just stop reading right here… but what’s the fun in that?

2. La Prunelle

This cute little Plateau area french bistro is well known for its delicate fine dining and quaint location. Situated right on the corner of Duluth and Drolet, La Prunelle is the perfect fit for a summer night out. The two main walls of the restaurant are floor to ceiling glass window panes. In the summer months the walls roll up like garage doors and the restaurant turns into a semi-terrace. It’s a good idea to call ahead for a reservation because this place is always packed. Also a great idea to come armed with cash, they don’t accept debit!

3. Gracia Afrika

This is one of the tastiest restaurants in the St-Henri area. Chef and owner of Gracia Afrika, Bibi Ntumba, grew up in the Congo and and was taught to cook traditional African dishes by her mother. Bibi now shares all the recipes she keeps close to her heart with her clients. You can expect delicious homemade fares in a warm and bright environment. Choose from fragrant, colourful traditional dishes like the mwambé (seasoned chicken in a peanut butter sauce) or an assortment of meats cooked in a banana leaf. Ideal for a relaxed evening (Bibi personally cooks most of the dishes so wait times are occasionally longer than usual), bring a bottle, sit back, and unwind!

4. Le P’tit Plateau

And now for something completely different…  another small Parisian bistro! The Plateau area’s Le P’tit Plateau is traditional french dining done right. The atmosphere is humble almost as if to announce “We let our food define us not our decor.” P’tit is open Tuesday to Friday and offers two seatings for dinner (6:30 and 8:30 pm). Reservations are essential, this tiny place is popular and fills up quickly. Yes, yes it’s a bit pricey… However, its easier to rationalize eating here by bringing that cheaper bottle of red!

If you’re looking for the best pho in town, then look no further than the gay village’s Pho Viet. This family restaurant was opened around 10 years ago by the charming owners, Mai and Lan. Try the Vietnamese fondue for two that comes with chicken, tomato shrimp, and vegetables in a spiced broth. The prices are very decent, and with your own wine, you’re in for a tasty and inexpensive night!

**Temporarily closed** This Plateau restaurant is a great fit for many dining occasions. Whether it’s a first date or a business lunch, Le Quartier General has got you gastronomically covered. Chef Patrick Plouffe describes his food as “Contemporary Quebecois” and also “Food of the World.” Pushing aside the flowery language, this place is simply tasty. The space is large and open, accented with stained oak finishes. Somehow it manages to feel homie and modern simultaneously. One of the most unique features of Le Quartier is the open air kitchen. Restaurant goers are right in the action as they catch glimpses of the meals being prepared. Watching the best ingredients from Quebec as they sizzle, sauce and toss!

They make their pizza dough fresh daily and their menu boasts dozens of choices for pizza and pasta. Make your way there from Monday, from 11:30am to 6pm, Tuesday to Friday, from 11:30am to 9pm, Saturday from 12:30pm to 9pm and Sunday from 12:30pm to 9pm. Happy skating!

A List of the Best Coffee in Montreal

My favorite coffee spot? You’ve probably never heard of it. This list of best coffee in Montreal is in no particular order, because it was too hard to deduce a fair sequence without being shunned by the Coffee Gods.

14. Café Brooklyn

71 Rue Saint Viateur Est

375400_220318024769704_853802558_n

Fresh food, good coffee, reasonable prices and a friendly ambiance. This cafe started off as a 20th century modern furniture store, but rapidly morphed into a coffee shop. While you’re there, try the coffee cake (it is baked by the owner’s aunt every day)!

13. Le Cagibi

5490 Boulevard Saint-Laurent

best coffee in montreal

This place is as cool as it gets: a vegetarian coffee shop that doubles as a concert venue. Not only can you savour excellent coffee here, but you can watch the staff prep your burritos, admire the quirky decor, and experience an authentic Montreal apartment feel as you walk on the creaky floorboards. With mismatched chairs, tables, and dishes, the veritable bohemian atmosphere is sure to imbue you and your coffee during your stay. Oh and, they don’t charge extra for soy.

12. Cafe Myriade

1432 Rue Mackay
1000 Sainte Catherine Street West
4627 Saint-Denis Street

Best coffee in Montreal

This ever-popular coffee destination (that’s often the sustenance of Concordia students) is more than a pretty cafe. Myriade only works with quality-focused roasters–mainly from 49th Parallel Roasters in Vancouver, BC–but they also feature guest roasts from across North America and Europe. Their coffee tastes even better because it’s guilt-free: they pay the farmers above the standard Fair-Trade prices. With their seasonal menu, you’ll have a chance to taste a myriad of flavours at Myriade.

11. Club Social

180 St. Viateur Ouest Montreal

Club sociale Best Coffee Shops in Montreal Mile End

Continuing up the Mile-End’s St-Viateur, you’ll eventually encounter Olympico’s rival, Club Social. This coffee shop’s terrace makes for one of the best (but well known) summer hangout spots. Trees surround it, locals wave to each other, and (coffee) love is in the air. Ordering from here makes you feel like you’re instantly part of the neighbourhood thanks to the staff’s friendliness. Make sure you order a latte, they’re 2 bucks!

10. Pikolo Espresso Bar

3418b Park Ave

best coffee in montreal

Once Marie-Eve Laroche discovered Australia’s coffee culture, she decided to bring a taste of it back to Montreal. Pikolo Espresso Bar says it all in the name: it’s a small space that serves espresso-based drinks. Laroche works with Canadian roasters Phil & Sebastian and Microtorrefacteur Saint-Henri to accentuate the flavour of each unique coffee.

9. Café Résonance

5175 Avenue du Parc

best coffee in montreal

This vegan jazz-cafe is huge, very low key, and has a great ambiance! They often host reading and music events. And just in case coffee actually does keep you up at night, they’ll keep you company: open hours go until midnight every day of the week.

8. Dispatch

best coffee in montreal

Dispatch was started by Chrissy Durcak who began by serving the coffee out of a truck. Her philosophy was to spend time cultivating a relationship with the farmers they get their coffee from. Having now removed the training wheels, Dispatch serves up a tasty cup of coffee in three different locations around Montreal. The coffee shops’ ultra-minimalist decor doesn’t reflect their coffee–those beans are packed with flavour–because Dispatch is riding the third wave of coffee hard.

267 Rue Saint Zotique O
3480 University St
4021 St Laurent Blvd

7. Cafe Odessa

65 rue Beaubien East

Best coffee in motnreal

From the owners of Le Vieux Vélo popular brunch eatery in Rosemont comes Odessa, an industrial-style cafe with a nautical theme based the eponymous port city in the Ukraine. This third wave coffee shop gets their beans from Pilot Coffee Roasters who try and directly source every bean roasted. Baristas are particularly friendly here and easy to have a little chat with as you sip on your drink of choice.

6. Arts Café

201 Avenue Fairmount Ouest

10330263_639351526141530_6620909786802541228_n

The service here is amazing: you are always greeted with a smile! They have generous portions, quality coffee, rustic decor and oh- did I mention the great service?

5. Olympico

124 Rue St-Viateur Ouest

Olympico Best Coffee Shops in Montreal Mile End

They have legendary coffee; it’s fantastic and you will not be disappointed. It can get very crowded though- so maybe you shouldn’t come here… It’s not even that great. (To many people know about the goodness that this place can offer!!!)

4. Café Falco

5605 Avenue de Gaspé

Best coffee shops in Montreal

The layers of flavour to be found in Falco’s various coffees are gastronomical. The place has an industrial feeling to it but has a great ambiance and vibe. They offer a variety of food that have a Japanese twist to them. Come here for lunch!

3. Melinas Phyllo Bar

5733 du Parc

Best coffee in Montreal

Melina’s is a cute, little shop that serves delicious Greek coffee and Greek pastries. The staff here is super friendly and chatty which makes you want to come back.

2. Le Dépanneur Café

206 Rue Bernard Ouest

best coffee in Montreal

Le Dépanneur Café is charming and unique, and offers delicious healthy meals and specialty drinks. They play relaxing lounge music, but always invite local artists to sign up to play live music. (Beware this place can get awfully crowded).

1. MELK Bar à Café

1206 Stanley St
5612 Monkland Ave

best coffee in Montreal
Photo credit: MELK Bar à Café

MELK’s tiny coffee shops are sleek and modern, but their coffee is comforting and delicious. They’ve got a good selection of scones, biscottes and other pastries. Their drink menu ranges from espresso, to tea, to matcha latte. Don’t forget to admire the latte artwork!

Bar Le “Ritz” PDB:

PDB stands for “punks don’t bend,” and they don’t settle for sub par venues either. After taking over from another business, the space was re-done a few years back and is now a go-to venue for both local and visiting acts of all genres. With Bixi bike stands all over the city, it’s never been easier to tour the city on two wheels. Montreal has a good network of bike lanes running through downtown and plenty of cyclists to use them. 5. Battle it out at the other side of Tam-Tams

The free drumming festival that pops up every Sunday at Jeanne-Mance park has become a bit of a Montreal cliche. It makes for a nice sunny day spent in the grass, but if you really want to see something new, check out the Medieval (foam) sword fighting going on in the forest just behind the pasture. Some of the role-players have been coming out for over a decade in full medieval dress. All you need to join in, though, is an open open mind and a foam sword. Can you come out victorious?

3. Explore all the culture of Mile-Ex

Everyone’s been talking about the growth of Mile-Ex, what could’ve been a casualty of urban sprawl, is now a creative hub. It’s just sprouting with fun new experiences… Depanneur le Pick Up doubles as a restaurant and a modern but cozy fine food experience awaits at Le Mile Ex Restaurant (which the area is named after). Take a look at our article on the neighbourhood to find out why a walk around the Mile Ex is a surefire way to impress a date, a new friend, or a someone from out of town.

2. Get giddy at these new Montreal bars

There’s no shortage of new bars to try out in Montreal. These three are particularly exciting for their awesome decor, great drink menus, and overall je-ne-sais-quoi vibe!

Darling:

This cafe/bar has been packed since its Spring 2017 opening. Maybe it’s the steampunk/industrial decor that’s got a Los Angeles vibe, maybe it’s all the craft beer and cider they’ve got on tap. Whatever the reason, it’s an exciting hangout at any hour of the day or night. facebook.com/BarCafeDarling

La Taverne du Pélican:

The team behind Old Montreal’s Le Club Chasse et Pêche has opened up a new low-key bar in Mile-End, though it might not be quite a dive, it’s trying to be. Sporting events and funny flicks being played nightly on their tv screens are sure to make you feel at home. instagram.com/latavernedupelican

Siboire:

This hugely popular Sherbrooke microbrewery has finally graced Montreal’s Saint-Laurent street! Beer amateurs and experts alike now have another drinkery to delight their craft beer-loving palate. siboire.ca

Gay Montreal : 18 magical activities for 2015

We’re here, and we’re queer! …but now what? Here’s our list of the best 18 magical things you can do.

Whether it’s Karaobitch Wednesdays, Bagalicious Sundays, or to watch the Rupaul Dragrace on Mondays, Montreal icon Mado’s drag cabaret offers festive events most days of the week, making your mandatory trip down to the Gay Village that much better.

17. Explore the Mile-Ex Montreal

mile ex montreal alexandra platz

Officially named the Alexandra-Marconi sector, the affectionately dubbed “Mile-Ex” just won’t stop flourishing. With new restaurants, breweries, and coffee shops, it’s a great place to take a stroll in the area and be part of the buzz. Some suggestions: Le Depanneur Pickup, Brasserie Harricana, Manitoba restaurant, and the ‘’biergarten’’, Alexandraplatz.

16. Show your colours at Pride!

Gay montreal parade

Arguably the best parade of the city, Pride takes place on August 16th this year, and hosts many interesting events on surrounding dates. Whether you are part of the LBGQT community or are an ally, the Pride parade is definitely a party in the streets, where everyone can be themselves and show the world their true colours.

15.  Dance silently in the streets…. with a group of people.

Have you ever seen a crowd of people dancing along the street in silence and wondered what the hell was going on? Here’s your answer: it was the Silent Disco Squad. With “The world is a dancefloor!” as its tag line, the Silent Disco Squad welcomes everyone to participate in its dance sessions. Join their Facebook events, download the mp3 to your device, and join the groundbreaking movement that even inspired a TED talk.

14. Make out with a French girl or guy.

Gay Montreal Activities

We hear it all the time: Montreal is a really good looking city. Stop being so busy with your good looks and go use them to your advantage! Next time you’re in Parc Lafontaine having a picnic, walk over to your nearest neighbouring picnic and offer a food swap. You know, my grapes for your… kiss? Anyway, you get the point: talk to the pretty people you see and don’t be shy. It won’t be summer for long, so go get ‘em while they’re hot.

13. Join the public karaoke family

gay montreal karaoke

You’re in the mood to let loose and sing with abandon, but your friends aren’t exactly at that point in their life yet? Public Karaoke is to the rescue! Taking place once monthly in Portugal park on St-Laurent, the event gathers Karaoke lovers from all over the city and makes them into one big, singing family for the evening. Whether you want to participate or just witness others pour their musical hearts out, this is one summer event you won’t want to miss.

12. Take a selfie under Ste-Catherine’s “Projet Les Boules Roses”

In an effort to beautify Montreal’s Gay Village and make its aesthetics reflect its vibrant night (and day) life, Ste-Catherine East’s summer sky is lined with 170 000 mysterious pink plastic balls. The effect is something like a bubble gum themed fiesta, making it the perfect spot to take an eventful late night stroll and some silly colourful selfies.

11. Gay Village bars and nightclubs

  • Aigle Noir/Black Eagle: If leather and bears are your thing, then look no further!
  • Royal Phoenix: Located in the Mile-End this place has lot’s of sexy people, excellent tunes, and a great atmosphere. (They serve a Bacon Bloody Caesar!)

10. Check out the McCord Museum’s “Camp Fires” Exhibition on Gay Identity

It’s not every day that a museum takes gay identity and makes it the central theme for an exhibition! The McCord Museum near McGill however, is home to the extremely provocative (and totally fun) exhibition, Camp Fires until August 15 2015. Ceramic works are used to explore Montreal Catholicism and its shaping of gay identities, as per their artists. This one of a kind collection is something people of all genders won’t want to miss.

9. Go to an Event at the Wiggle Room

The Wiggle Room may be small, but the acts it selects are always high caliber, and guaranteed high quality. Here you can find burlesque, talent shows, drag shows, variety shows, and unique events such as “The Dirty Show”. Its decor is of a fine-tuned, detailed Vaudeville taste, creating a fun atmosphere for people of all genders. http://wiggleroom.ca/events/

Montreal’s RD scene resides mainly at the Aréna St-Louis on St-Dominique, and hosts competitions on Saturday nights where you can watch some of their five teams compete. A healthy, community-driven sport, filled with “girl power”, come watch one of their events and partake in the cheer.

7. Watch the Montreal Gay web series made by Tourism MTL

Montreal Boy – some strings attached (complete season 1) from Olivier Labonté LeMoyne on Vimeo.

When Tourism MTL makes a web series, you know something good’s cooking. The series, “Montreal Boy: Some Strings Attached” directed by Olivier Labonte Lemoyne, is cinematographically bullet proof and showcases not only the city’s pretty landscapes but also some quintessentially Montreal apartments. The subject matter? An intricate and emotionally moving gay relationship, the kind we’re all ready to see a little more of in mainstream media.

Drogheria Fine opened their doors to the Mile End community approximately five years ago. Since then folks have travelled from near and far to grab a jar of its famed pasta sauce. This special sauce is the only product that Drogheria Fine actively promotes. Yet, they have shown that what they lack in variety, they make up for in quality! The specialty store has under ten products and all of them are based off the prized pasta sauce. Which is titled “La Salsa Della Nonna.” This quite literally translates to “Grandmas Sauce” and is owner Franco Grattuso’s family recipe.

photoPhoto by Ismaël Ulvik

When walking into the tiny shop visitors are instantly greeted with a tantalizing aroma and some tomato eye candy. Customers are able to see the sauce being prepared in the back room, pots’n’all! The small shop can give off a minimalist appearance with only a few jars on the shelves. However, this is due to customers buying the sauce faster than they can stock it, rather than an offbeat design choice.

After meeting Franco it quickly becomes clear that he is the godfather of Montreal pasta sauce. He explained to us  “With Drogheria I’m continuing the history of my culture and of the history of Montreal culture.” Franco used to disperse his famed sauce from his own restaurant “Il Piatto della Nonna.” However he departed from the busy restaurant industry and chose to focus on dispersing his sauce at a retail level. Thus, Drogheria Fine was born!

Pasta2
The shop is located directly next door to the world famous Fairmont bagel. Franco told us that he likes having Fairmont as a neighbours because “the light’s always on and they have great clientele.” Who would have thought such a partnership could exist between bagels and tomato sauce?

Pasta3
So if you find yourself in the neighbourhood be sure to pop into Drogheria Fine. Have a chat with Franco, enjoy the traditional ambience, and pick up some of his exceptional pasta sauce. You’d better go before it’s sold out!

Le Salon Cardinal opened at the beginning of December last year. Since then it has steadily grown a following from purely hipster word of mouth. Kelsey the manager at Le Salon Cardinal told us “We’ve been slammed almost every weekend since we opened, it’s been incredible!” This hot new addition to the St.Laurent strip could not have come at a better time. The Mile End is overloaded with coffee shops and frankly I’m getting bored.

montreal cardinal tea room

This delicate tea house is a refreshing addition to a coffee soaked neighborhood. The two level tea salon is located directly on top of the local favorite “The Sparrow.” Le Salon Cardinal was opened by the same owners of The Sparrow in a space that used to be a “bumpin” night club. They have completely revamped the place and it now resembles a victorian dreamscape. Hanging chandeliers, antique bookcases and elegant china prove that creating a palpable atmosphere is all in the details.

montreal cardinal tea room 1

The interior alone was so impressive that we almost forgot our main reason for visiting… the tea!  I don’t pretend to be a professional tea expert but I like to think I can appreciate the difference between a traditional china green and Lipton’s. We tried two of their teas and would recommend both. The first was the Panda Green and the other was an Oolong called tich-nah-something? Both tea’s arrived at the table steeped to perfection, not too weak yet not too strong. The Panda Green was impressive because it held all the lovely aromas of green tea but without the bitter after-bite. The Oolong’s name wasn’t memorable however the tea itself was excellent! It was a perfect balance of bold black tea with fragrant floral undertones. Be sure to get a pot of both for your table!

montreal cardinal tea room

Le Salon Cardinal also offers a variety of tea time treats. We tried the blueberry scone with jam and clotted cream, as well as the Egg and Watercress sandwich. Both the scone and the sandwich were high quality and very satisfying. The best way to describe the food is “traditional.” They didn’t go out on a limb and try to revolutionize tea time. Good call, some things are better left untouched!

If you’ve got a lazy afternoon to kill, why not spend it in style at Le Salon Cardinal?
