The Plateau Mont-Royal is a world-famous neighbourhood filled with artists, cute cafés, interesting shops, delicious restaurants and a lively nightlife. It’s truly one of the hippest neighbourhoods in North America with a mix of classic institutions and a flourishing scene of new establishments and eateries opening up everywhere. You’ll have the opportunity to taste delicious food and meet other wonderful participants from around the world, as well as your friendly guide who infuses the tour with personal anecdotes and insider knowledge. We conduct our tours with a sustainable tourism ethos, aiming to disrupt daily life in the community as little as possible while ensuring equitable wages for all of our tour guides. You'll leave with a full heart, mind and of course, a full stomach! 

Tasting Locations

1. Bar Darling - We kick off the tour at the newest and hippest bar in the Plateau. Enjoy a tasty goat cheese salad!

2. Épicerie Hao - Then, we visit a Tokyo-style counter restaurant, part of the growing high-end Asian food scene on Rachel Street. We’ll try their unique steamed bao bun!

3. Notre-Dame du Rosaire - Next, we savour an authentic Portuguese dessert called nata from a family-run bakery.

4. Museum of Jewish Montreal & Fletcher’s Café - We’ll delve into Montreal’s Jewish culinary history and sample a famous St. Viateur bagel with cream cheese, lemon and onions.

5. Schwartz’s Deli - We grab a smoked meat sandwich at this world-famous deli. Some claim it’s the best smoked meat in the world!

What to expect from the Plateau & ‘The Main’ Food Tour?

One-of-a-Kind Food Tasting On our 2 1/2-hour tour of the famous Plateau Mont-Royal neighbourhood, we invite you to taste the best of the old and the new. The tour takes you to visit the restaurants that have become beloved Montreal institutions like Schwartz’s Deli with its world-renowned smoked meat as well as the new popular bars and restaurants that have turned into instant Plateau hot spots, such as Bar Darling where we start the tour. The food you try along the way is diverse and exciting featuring Portuguese natas, a Jewish bagel cream cheese, lemon and onions, and a steamed pork bun. We finish off the tour in the amazing community centre named Santropol Roulant!  They prepare and deliver around 100 meals a day by bike to the elderly or people with disabilities. You’ll see their entire installation and beautiful rooftop garden overlooking the Plateau! 

Historic & Cultural Experience – Plateau Mont-Royal is a beautiful place to stroll through with its colourful buildings and vibrant culture. There’s a piece of history on every street corner. Your knowledgeable tour guide walks you through the history of the Portuguese and Jewish communities that made this neighbourhood what it is today. We walk up lively Saint-Laurent Boulevard, also known as “The Main”, and explore its industrial past. We’ll have a taste of the high-end Asian eateries popping up along Rachel street and even take a peek at legendary songwriter Leonard Cohen’s former house. Take in and learn about the various murals found throughout the area and the local artists who created them. The Plateau Mont-Royal is one of the most vibrant neighbourhoods in Montreal and home to many of the city’s best cafés, bars, art, and restaurants. Explore this unique area through its delicious food, and let us show you what makes the Plateau tick!

Runs rain, snow or shine! (40% of the tour takes place indoors). We highly recommend bringing appropriate sun protection on summer days.


Please note that the Plateau Food Tour includes vegetarian and gluten-free options but cannot accommodate vegans. Please let us know of any dietary restrictions when booking the tour. 


If you’re an early bird, we suggest you have a small breakfast before coming. If not, you can also skip breakfast and come directly to the food tour. 


Tickets must be purchased before 10 AM on any given tour date. We recommend booking your tickets in advance as most of the tours tend to sell out.


Some parking spots are available on the streets near Bar Darling. We recommend public transportation and ask that you please do not drink and drive.
