7 Best Places to Watch the Montreal Fireworks This Summer

Montreal is home to the largest fireworks competition in the world! The Loto-Québec International Fireworks Competition graces the shores of  Parc Jean Drapeau every year between July 1 to August 4. Leading pyrotechnic firms from around the world compete on many warm summer nights, much to the delight of local Montrealers and visitors alike. Head to one of the suggested locations below and see the sky lit-up with delightful eruptions of light!

7. Village au Pied-du-Courant

Underneath the Jacques Cartier bridge is a quaint little village with a sandy floor and little kiosks set-up for the various events and markets that happen there. It came about when locals got together to turn this old industrial lot into an entertainment space. The little village overlooks the saint lawrence river, making it the perfect area to catch a stunning show of fireworks. It’s accessible via Papineau metro.

6. The Mount-Royal Summit

Climb or drive up to the top of Mount-Royal and enjoy a glorious view of the city in addition to the fireworks. If you’re in the downtown area, you can reach the stairs that lead up to the summit on Pins avenue between Peel and Drummond streets. It’s worth a trip to this iconic lookout even when there aren’t fireworks going on: see the sun rise or set for the ultimate romantic experience.

For a fancy evening or an elegant soiree, the Terrasse sur l’Auberge is the place to be–with a glass of wine in hand–while the sky is ignited with colour and light. There’s a cover of 25$ per person, but there’s no minimum food purchase once inside. They offer French bistro food and tapas like their renown tartare. 4. The Old Port

This is the classic destination for firework watching. Expect a crowd of people staring in awe at the light show in the sky. This area has the added bonus of offering great snacks while you feast your eyes. There’s a Ben & Jerry’s, Dairy Queen and Café-Terrasse Chez Catherine where you can buy an ice cream cone. 3. Au Sommet Place Ville-Marie

Head to the 46th floor of the Place Ville-Marie building near Square Victoria metro. At the top, you’ll find the best 360 degree view of the city. Enjoy a pre-fireworks dinner at Les Enfants Terribles Brasserie which also has a kid’s menu if you’re bringing the family along. On the 45th level, check out their interactive exhibit showcasing the portraits of 55 notable Montrealers from chefs to hockey players.

2. Complexe Sky Rooftop Terrace

Kick off your night of dancing on Sky’s rooftop terrace. There’s no cover charge to access the rooftop, which is open every night barring bad weather. Order a massive pitcher of sangria at their tiki-themed bar, and see the pyrotechnic show with a glass in hand. Head down to their other levels for a night of dancing or catch a drag show!

1. LaRonde

Head over to Ile Sainte-Hélène, get a day pass ticket to LaRonde at around 65$, an let an exciting day turn into an exhilarating night at the LaRonde stadium on the water. There’s no better way to finish off a day of delightful amusement park rides and sugary snacks than to see those beautiful explosions in the night sky from their great location. The price of the ticket includes access to the fireworks, so be sure to get to the stadium early to secure your spot on the bleachers!
